The kalamkari workshop had very enthusiastic participation from ladies who were surprised by the amount of hardwork and effort that goes into the making of a picture. ” Now when we see a kalamkari painting and if it is smudged a bit , we will not keep it aside saying it is not done properly, we now have learnt that a bit of smudging happens in the painting and it is alright” In this picture the ladies are being taught how to make the dye.

We had a very interesting five day workshop on the traditional art of Kalamkari painting. The participants enjoyed it thoroughly. The entire process of preparing the dye (Kasam)and then painting on fabric was taught.
“what i liked about the workshop was the committment and the sincerity with which the workshop was conducted. The teachers parted with their knowledge, and this helped me greatly as I now have the confidence of doing the painting on my own” said Ms. Sindhu bhairavi who lives in the U.S.
We also sold items made by the resource people. There were bags, sarees, patches to be attached on dress materials etc.
